Like an eye wide open

the sunflower sits

A source of life

for insects and man

exerting beauty

wide open and grand

The bees feast

on nectar in the early spring

buzzing happily

doing their thing

Reaching maturity

center filled with seeds

providing man and birds

nutrition to fill every need

Seeds fall to the ground

resting comfortably beneath the snow

waiting for the spring to come

another season to grow
