Transforming a Cycle of Life

In the early spring

the caterpillar had one last task to do

after fretting for weeks

now it had a clue

Finding the exact leaf

a pod is being spun

no time for decorating

a battle to be won

A winter storm brewing

rain turning to sleet

the pod must be finished

must not be weak

In an area depauperate of butterflies

this transformation must take place

flowers and other wildlife

depending on its embrace

Transformation begins

in a deep sleep

weeks pass

now is complete

Butterfly emerges

a beautiful sight

living a purpose

the future is bright

  1. This time I listened before I read. I found myself rooting for the caterpillar to come out victorious, on the other side… I may have gotten emotionally involved. 🙂

    • Thank you. I look forward to the butterflies coming in the late spring. They are so pretty. Thank you for suggesting that I record my poems. It has brought a new dimension to them I think. Have a wonderful day!
