Conquering a Ski Slope

Finding the courage

to conquer a fear of heights

reaching beyond the weakness

to ski down a hill with delight

With great gumption

I slid onto the lift

taking a deep breath

looking down at the snow drifts

Such beauty as

I looked down at the trees

a sudden fear of falling

a shiver in my knees

Making it to the top

beginning to go down the hill

wind on my face

such a thrill

Fantastic speed

freedom conquering the slope

trees sparkle with ice

wish I had a periscope

Down at the bottom

excited at the revelation

riding in the air is an adventure

not fear but exhilaration

Rushing to the lift

rising toward the sun

now one with nature

enjoying the fun

  1. Man, what a ride… I could feel the wind and spray on my face, from your description, Debbie. Even though I have never witnessed this first hand, I have seen enough video to understand the process.

    • Skiing was a fun adventure that I did in my teenage years. The wind and spray on your face is a wonderful experience. Thanks for reading. Hope that you have a Happy New Year!

  2. A fun post Debbie. I’m sure you’re still up to it. Takes a long while to get that smooth flow down the slope but when you do it’s exhilarating. I’m going again this year after a very long break. Wish me luck. An expensive sport though…….
