Animals and wildlife sleep

while snow covers the trees

branches filled with ice

instead of leaves

The wind is biting

trees on the brink of destruction

will the forest survive

this brutal obstruction

Wind dies down

the assault has ceased

a winter wonderland created

there is an internal peace

Like columns of old

the trees form a design

an illusion of sanctuary

or perhaps a shrine

The day becomes night

there is light from the moon

an eerie quiet

fills the created room

The scene continues

till time for spring

when new life appears

and winter becomes a dream
