The Mask

Wearing a mask

having no accountability

the perfect disguise

granting stability

There is a parade

floats in the street

mooching beer and food

so many material treats

The drive of a thief

life is a delight

grabbing a wallet

owner screams in fright

a time filled with bliss

blending in with the revelers

happiness not to be missed

Midnight comes

the parade is over

time to repent

cure the hangover

Hanging the mask up

till the next year

time to be responsible

made it through clear

  1. I have an elaborate mask like that – for Halloween one year – it has feathers and paint and glitter. It’s beautiful. The imagery made me feel I was there participating. Nicely done.
