I studied the features of winter

different things to be learned

sitting in the warmth

as the fire burned

 

Winter is a time of rest

as the plants sleep in comfort

covered by the ice and snow

wonderfully dormant

 

Small birds struggle

as they search for food

placing seed in the feeder

helps to feed their broods

 

Snow on the ground

children playing in delight

enjoying the moment

perhaps a snowball fight

 

Snow and ice become

water for the rivers and lakes

melting in the spring

comfort when the sun bakes

 

The winter landscape

nurturing to my soul

a time to reflect

until the spring bells toll
