The stillness of the day
stones of the past
small reflections of the lives
passing from times last
The monuments carry
names and dates
some rhyme with small messages
too little too late
The sadness lessens
with the passage of time
becoming history lessons
of life lived on a dime
Our bodies are marked
by a small six foot space
leaving only memories
which time can erase
Where is our legacy
it is written in the wind
kindness and loving each other
this part of life will never end
Carried through the generations
lessons to be learned
small monuments depict
what lessons were earned
Going into eternity
loving throughout all time
living on in spirit
beauty in the sublime

Thank you for this peaceful and profound poem. It was especially touching for me since my father just passed away a few days ago.
