Wonderful morning walk
talking to neighbors as I go
stopped to get water for a friend
who had mud on their toes
The water was in the refrigerator
as I walked into the house
reaching for the door
quiet as a mouse
Then there was barking
and the growling began
I jumped on the counter
looking for a safe place to land
The small dog came around the corner
with a glare in her eyes
scuffing her feet
I thought of my demise
She studied me
high on the sink
then scuffed off
before I could think
Running out of the house
with water bottles in hand
my friends laughing
as I reached safe land
