Foothold in Greed

Landing in the muck again

so close yet so far

when I grow up

the waste will be in a jar

Attempting to be conscientious

perfect in each detail

hearing every syllable

perhaps that’s why I fail

Trapped in the rat race

stuck to other people’s feet

latching onto their greed

money is the source of this defeat

Muddled feet shake with mirth

as I ride the wave

am so tiny

life begins to fade

But out of the shadows

the rain begins to fall

each drop cleanses me

chipping away at the wall

Leaving the darkness

as the sun begins to shine

learning to be content

embracing the sublime

Spirit has found a new calling

no longer attached to greed

walking in a beautiful meadow

there is joy in being free
