A Morning Flight

Leaping off the mountain

into the ramshackle atmosphere

joining my colleague

without fear

Floating along

enjoying the view

what happened next

was something new

Seeing some birds

joining the pack

bragging that I was one of them

tapping one on the back

The bird was startled

losing some altitude

took some minutes to recover

then came back with an attitude

Attacking me

calling all his friends

I quickly began

to try to make amends

Poetic justice in the moment

as the wind died down

I began to drop

having a nervous breakdown

Falling faster

the wind picked up again

suddenly rising to safety

relief and a grin

Sliding onto the ground

watching the birds disappear

never again bragging

hindsight is clear

The Sunken Souls

The water was chilly

as I descended down the steps

wanting to belong to a clique

that only met at this depth

The clique seemed an oxymoron

as my dive began

so many creatures together

one nipped my hand

Reaching a coral reef

the group reigned supreme

legends in their own minds

there was even a queen

A silent city

sunken so long ago

new life has taken over

a beautiful place to go

A sawyer attached to

a sunken boat

slowly rising

attempting to float

Long deceased passengers

of this boat

not able to move on

just to gloat

Stealing energy

of those who came to visit

death surrounds them

the invitation is explicit

Fleeing now

realizing not my style

swimming frantically

safe after a mile

Climbing out

grateful to have left the strife

determined to appreciate others

now and in the afterlife

Ocean Relationships

Enjoying a relationship

with ocean creatures

so fun

with unique features

Transitory in nature

come many friends

swimming with fish

not wanting it to end

Jellyfish surround me

shape shifting in the waves

beaming beautiful light

a gift to save

Swimming in the coral

an octopus comes near

hiding in the grooves

changes become clear

Riding a dolphin

rising to the top

surfing the waves

hoping not to drop

Shells on the beach

creatures call home

a crab climbs in

wanting to be left alone

Sun setting

reflections on the sea

a comforting night

as the breeze sings to me

At Wit’s End

Desperation turned into sadness

as the young man sat on the rails

with tears in his eyes

the tracks represented his trail

Reflecting on life

without any direction

wandering the rails

each car a troublesome section

At his wit’s end

he could no longer hold the peace

speaking his mind

yelling a speech

Finally in tears

an awakening came

make a change

or everything would remain the same

Getting up

with a new attitude

he faced the world

with a sense of gratitude
