In loving memory of my father, uncles, and all others who are long gone but never forgotten. Love you all. May they rest in peace.
Heat permeated the afternoon
walking amongst the graves
all having downsized
to a marker of the brave
Fighting for what they believed
taking a stand
quiet now
not even a band
Courage trickled down
through the generations
all stronger
a grateful nation
My family
caring a part of them with me
smiling at the traits
through me they see
Eyes looking at peace
a way to live together
recognizing diversity
many types of feathers
On this Memorial Day
you are never forgotten
missing all of you
one of your begotten
