Filling out an application
to a venerable institution
reflecting on my grandparents
who loved the constitution
From a distant land
to America they came
like a mermaid out of water
nothing was the same
With great hope and faith
from the sparks of dawn
hard work and dedication
they journeyed on
Generations later
their sacrifice is felt
opportunities have evolved
their courage a safety belt

where did they go over from?
Hi. My mother’s ancestors came here from Ireland during the great potato famine and my father’s ancestors came here from Germany during the early 1800s I think. They were farmers and hardworking people.
It’s fascinating isn’t it how such diverse backgrounds come to join together.
