On this damp morning
I proudly began
the long swim
to the other land
Practicing for months
swimming each day
the water calm
as I make my way
My family laughed
saying I would rue this venture
it is too far
may make it to the center
Swimming slowly
the fish and birds cheering me on
now in the center
a little past dawn
Close to the finish
excitement in the air
heart is racing
there is a slight glare
Climbing out
shouting out in exhileration
the sun and wildlife join me
in a celebration
My family applauds
sitting in a boat
a picnic is waiting
time for an ice cream float
