The Claim

I laid a claim

upon the land

dubious in my movements

feet resting in some sand

The cloud spoke to me

from high above the trees

what right do you have

to live among the leaves

Preservation I replied

to leave a legacy to others

the freedom to live in peace

to be in awe of the wonder

I promise

to give as much as I take

leaving things as pure as possible

clean up what I make

There will be others

who come this way

lessons of respect

each and every day

The cloud dissipated

leaving with a smile

a sense of approval

my task was worthwhile

Lying down

observing the stars

content with my new life

and new stories for my memoirs
