Trapped within a cage

the spectators voices shrilly

mimicking their movements

acting silly

 

Shiny baubles

oh so close

carefully watching

as the spectators boast

 

Ignoring the sign

saying not to touch

calling to them

the temptation is too much

 

A woman approaches

with a small child

I mimic their gestures

my behavior is mild

 

The candy is close

almost within my grasp

trying to be cool

letting a small time elapse

 

Got it!

the woman begins to scream

pulling the child back

dropping his ice cream

 

The candy is mine

I will do it again

enjoying my prize

as the crowd grows thin
