Ode to August

August in the south

temperatures compete with hell

still there is beauty

birds sing as well

Trees filled with fruit

most on the ground

small wildlife having a feast

nature knows no bounds

School has begun

too early for me

like the olden days when

summer was still free

These are the dog days

relieved by a summer swim

an afternoon thunderstorm

dancing in the rain on a whim

Late August

football comes to town

songs from the band

cheering all around

One last reunion

before family has to run

an ode to a blessed life

August can be fun
