The car broke down
on the road one day
after purchasing repairs
I looked for a place to stay
Renting a nearby cabin
surrounded by woods
built a fire thinking the solitude
would do me good
Shadows lurk in the woods
things creep in the night
unfamiliar with the area
sounds gave me a fright
A shy creature appeared
wanting to share the fire
anxious at first
then overcome with desire
Poor deer was hungry
looked rather peak
I gave it food
happy to eat
My new friend
ate and then left
bowed its head in thanks
having saved it from death
Morning came
I went on my way
energy restored
grateful for the delay
