Summer Picnic

As if by magic

the symphony began

cheers from nature

as I laid out the afghan

The ants were booed

as they entered the stage

taking morsels of food

filling me with rage

Shaking out the afghan

then laying it down again

spraying ant deterrent around it

not caring if it was a sin

Applause came

as I sat down the main dish

a beautifully grilled brisket

it was my husband’s wish

Accompanied by side dishes

baked beans and potato salad

wine to drink

husband playing a ballad

Sweet summer

aromas flying through the wind

living in a loving moment

praying it will never end
