5 Frugal and Low Cost things to do this summer

The following are ideas to have a free or low cost summer entertainment in Flowood MS. Although these ideas are for where I live most of them can be found in other places.

1. Picnic in one of the parks surrounding the Ross Barnett Reservoir – Each of these parks have grills and picnic tables for al fresco dining – take some food and drinks to enjoy the afternoon and if you go late in the afternoon a colorful and relaxing sunset – some of these parks also provide playgrounds for children and trails to walk or ride a bicycle
2. Camp in one of the campgrounds surrounding the Reservoir – these campgrounds provide tent and camper sites – there is fishing, trails, and grills with picnic tables – relax to the aromas of breakfast cooking or nightly s’mores cooking – tell campfire stories or play some tunes on a guitar and enjoy family time together
3. Listen to a low cost local concert in a local park – Lakeshore Park offers a sunset series the last Thursday of the month during the summer months
4. Have a home barbecue combined with a movie or game night – the local libraries have movies that can be checked out- there are also many low cost games that can be purchased – you may want to try old fashioned games such as badminton or croquet
5. If you play an instrument or sing then form a band with your family – have fun writing and singing your own songs.
