Inspirational Quote of the Week
As the summer solstice approaches marking the first day of summer, it’s time to reflect upon our dreams. Days are longer and there is a carefree spirit about them. The time to take action is here. Perhaps taking up a new hobby or just relax and be still. The fireflies are out lighting up the night for new adventures. Time for barbecues with sweet aromas of grilled meat and vegetables waiting as we sit at picnic tables to just be together. Then the morning comes with colorful sunrises and a time to express gratitude for all the wonderful gifts we have been given. May you be blessed in this time and believe in your dreams.

Ideas to Stay Cool in the Summer Heat
The temperature is rising for another hot late spring day. In Mississippi the heat and humidity are staples for the months of June, July, August, and September. If you are outside and looking to beat the heat then I hope these ideas will bring you relief.
- A fan with a water bottle mister – there is nothing like water and evaporative cooling to help beat the heat. A simple solution that is effective and cheap.
- Sitting in the shade – this makes you feel the actual air temperature – the sun’s rays are not heating you up
- Staying hydrated – allows your body to create sweat which cools your body down
- wear light clothing in the summer that breathes – help keeps skin from absorbing heat
Finally, try to find a place with air conditioning to visit . Go to a movie or walk around in a store.
I hope that these ideas help you to find relief from the summer heat. Stay cool and enjoy these carefree days.

The state bird for Mississippi is the mockingbird.
I love these birds and enjoy having them in my yard. They sing loudly and nest in many of my bushes. Many times the mockingbirds will get into battles over territory and their performances are epic.
I hope that you enjoy my poem and story for this week.
