Winter Birds

In the winter landscape

as the sharp cold wind blows

small birds come to the feeder

as the sun glows

The robin comes

bringing a splash of red

colorful contrast to the snow

eating a piece of bread

The finches come together

red, yellow, and green

along with some sparrows

small yet somehow seen

The thrush come singing

delighted to search for insects

poking holes in the snow

a delightful effect

Life in the winter

when the land is asleep

songs to brighten the morning

the melodies are deep

Calling to others

conveying the location of food

water flowing from a fountain

life is good

Flying away

spirits free in the wind

on to a warm nest

biding time till winter ends

  1. Loved this Debbie. I miss the variety of birds coming into our garden. It was lovely to see the swallows and kingfishers when we were on the boat, and the swans used to bring their babies alongside every morning. Thanks for taking part.
