Life Choices

Leaving the island

hoping never to return

looking through rose colored glass

so much to learn

The sun is setting

on this time in my life

taking my faithful dog

fascinated with the wildlife

Across the mountains

accessible by the sea

the city awaits promising a

hectic lifestyle with glee

Excitement abound

no time to rest

so much to experience

life filled with zest

Years pass

no time to catch up

spirit is weary

tired if being grownup

On a ship again

returning home

the sun is rising

longing to be alone

Home now

favorite dog by my side

fishing near an island

enjoying being alive

  1. You did a great job of packing in so much of the character’s life into this poem, a circular journey, and it’s wonderful that they feel alive after returning home.
