A Timeworn House

In the timeworn house

the windows are shattered

smashed from storms

still the story matters

Once upon a time

many generations flourished

the house an anchor

which the spirit was nourished

There was love and laughter

adventure filled the air

a swing on the porch

where music played with a flair

Some times were hard

broken dreams from a depression

still the house comforted

leaving a powerful impression

Times remain lean

through a world war

a bountiful garden fed them

the land was not poor

Elders died

the young went their own way

the house abandoned

land reclaimed it one day

Echoes of the past

can be heard in the wind

love and laughter

new generations walk by with a grin
