Tsunami

In the pandemonium

people are terrified

running from the wave

many have died

Little warning

slim chances to escape

avoiding blunt objects

some choose to wait

Attempts at rescue

there is some success

many scurry to higher ground

others to eternal rest

Time passes

warning systems put into place

another tsunami on the horizon

will life win the race

Systems work

people reach higher ground

disaster averted

no one drowned

  1. I love this bit, ‘many scurry to higher ground, others to eternal rest’ such a clever couple of lines. The whole piece embodies the nightmare of a tsunami beautifully. Well done.

  2. I am grateful everyone survived this wave.
I thoroughly enjoyed your poem. It was intense.
