Picayune: A Bug’s Life

Little blue bug

how cute are you

what is your purpose

is there something to do

 

Running around

on dead wood

always busy

sometimes misunderstood

 

Decomposition is your purpose

not picayune at all

helping to provide nourishment

when trees die and fall

 

Not intending to harm

stinging when somethings in the way

trying not to be swatted

on a summer day

 

Beautiful to some

beneficial to some crops

a bug’s life is full

not having time to stop

Assumption: A Red Wasp Builds a Nest

Red wasp

on the window sill

observing humans

attempting to be still

 

Flying around

assuming the worst

building a new nest

wanting to be the first

 

Gathering materials

stopping at flowers for a snack

will the humans accept me

or give me a whack

 

Buzzing around

the sun is hot

coolness from a window

there is water in a pot

 

The nest is finished

the humans come out

spotting me

one begins to shout

 

A blast of spray

it hits the nest

scurrying to get away

no time to rest

 

The assumption was wrong

humans are not my friend

searching for a new place

the journey never ends

A Bountiful Season

apple bloom 2 april 14

 

Spring blooms

spreading pollen in the wind

brilliant colors

life renewing again

 

The bees feast

going to each bloom

homage to the bounty

giving each other room

 

The bush continues

to grow and reproduce

there is nectar  for honey

natures sweet produce

 

The blooms begin to fade

a small fruit emerges

there is beauty in life

with each season’s surges

 

The harvest is coming

the cooler air of fall

feasting on the bounty

a thrill for all

 

A celebration occurs

dignifying the bounty

fairs and contest

people from the county

 

God’s provision

a celebration indeed

the wonderful cycle of life

a glorious site to see
