Uncontrollable laughter overtook me
at being told that I can’t
this ten-year-old child
called me grandma instead of aunt
Ageism in a child
an interesting turn
admonishing me for being unable to ride a bike
so much to learn
Nothing could stop me
taking up the challenge
firmly put feet on the pedals
now in balance
Nurturing a need
to prove him wrong
around the corner I went
feeling quite strong
Then it happened
the bike hit a bump
falling to the ground
a huge bruise on my rump
Hobbling back home
the child said “I told you so”
face red with sadness
it’s difficult to grow old
All is well
as I gave him a snack
nourishing his belly
his fun aunt is back
