On a picnic
sitting under a tree
sun was hot
flowers have wilted near me
Having made some pasta
with a thick red sauce
thinking it needed a boost
added some mushrooms without cost
The pasta was good
ate in all in a few scoops
then something happened
thought I had flown the coup
Did not feel a scare
as the hallucination began
the cause was the mushrooms
which had tasted quite grand
Small beings came
out of the tree roots
riding the leaves
it was a hoot
Inviting me to join them
we engaged in a dance
becoming one with the music
in a magical trance
Luring me into the water
talking to the fish
thrashing around
not wanting to become a fisherman’s dish
Pulled out of the water
by a strong force
surprised to find myself
having become a horse
Riding in the wind
mane flying through the air
riding across the country
colors bright with a flair
Jumping off a mountain
riding the clouds
then a forceful bump
coming back into the now
The hallucination ended
as quickly as it began
wet with a bruise
from where I did land
Sun has set
in the darkness alone
hobbling as I walked
time to go home

Thank you. I have heard stories from people who used mushrooms as a psychedelic drug in the 1960s. Some of their experiences were interesting and others quite frightening. Inspiration taken from people I knew that ingested mushrooms in the 60s. The stories were interesting, but I have never eaten mushrooms. Thanks for reading. Have a wonderful day!
