The open wound is gaping
filled with blood from the fall
crying in desperation
difficulty in it all
Emotions spread wide
there is so much pain
not just from the wound
wondering what to blame
Awakened from deep sleep
slipping on a rock
sliding down the canyon
dirt in my socks
My wail echoed
getting louder with time
coping with loss
alone and blind
Learning to cope
accepting my fate
sobbing in the silence
is it too late
A sudden surge of energy
rising to my feet
the sun has risen
pain is not as deep
My spirit is comforted
as my wounds heal
lessons learned in life
experience is real
Months pass
tears are now dry
stronger for the experience
I did not die
