The morning is crisp
soft clouds in a blue sky
having a fizzy drink
happiness inside
Watching the feeders
when a squirrel enters the yard
inching toward the seed
it’s not far
On the way
passing a bird house
parents are nesting
not the best route
An alarm is sounded
the attack has begun
squirrel startled
begins to run
Pecks on the head
as he rushes toward the fence
tail is swaying
a form of defense
Knocking over some berries
slipping in the grass
rolling down the hill
how long will it last
Finally succeeding
making his escape
covered in straw and berries
a colorful cape
Laughing hard
nearly fell out of my chair
admiring the squirrel
for how well he fared
