Tsunami

Standing on the roof

as far as the eye can see

calm waters abound

a wonderful day to be free

Out of sight

the volcano blows

a fault line moves

a wave begins to grow

Traveling faster

aided by the wind

gaining strength

seemingly no end

There is a warning

the horn makes a loud sound

people screaming

running to higher ground

The wave rushes

looting the land

debris everywhere

even taking the sand

The waters recede

fortunately no one is hurt

valuables are gone

all that is left is dirt

The volcano is quiet

lulled back into sleep

life is restored

until the next time we meet
