The Skull

On this particular day

the candle light sniffed out

hollow eyes peering

expression filled with doubt

The breeze oscillates

through the dim lit room

sands of the hourglass flow

is it time for doom

A closed book

the spell has been cast

will there be another victim

or is he the last

It’s the first day of the month

the sun shines in

all dark shadows are gone

the light echoes a grin

The skull changes

his spirit follows the light

the book burst into flames

as the spirit takes flight

Up above the clouds

a huge sigh of relief

his spirit begs forgiveness

for being a thief

Only the skull remains

beside the sands of time

the candle now brightly lit

no longer suffering for his crime
